Bitcoin climbs to $66,000, marking best September performance in history

Bitcoin (BTC) surged past $66,000 on Sept. 27 as New York opened for trading, reaching a two-month high to record its best September performance on record. The rally comes amid economic stimulus measures in China and the US Federal Reserve policy decision to cut interest rates, which have helped sustain recent market optimism. The surge is also driven by sustained institutional demand for spot Bitcoin ETFs. According to CryptoSlate data, Bitcoin was trading at $66,200 as of press time after bears failed to pull the price back to lower levels immediately after the surge.

Binance founder CZ walks free from US prison

Binance founder and former CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao walked free from a United States federal prison on Sept. 27 after serving a four-month stint for Anti-Money Laundering (AML) violations, a spokesperson for the United States Federal Bureau of Prisons told Cointelegraph. CZ pled guilty in November to federal charges for failure to implement proper AML controls at Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange in terms of daily trading volumes, according to a Nov. 21 statement from the US Department of Justice. He also stepped down as Binance’s CEO.

Premier League partner Sorare to appear in court over UK Gambling Commission charge

Sorare, an official partner of the Premier League, has been charged by the UK Gambling Commission with allegedly “providing unlicensed gambling facilities to consumers in Britain”. The company will appear at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on October 4 to face the charge. In January 2023, the Premier League announced a four-year license with Sorare “to release digital cards of players from all 20 Premier League clubs as part of its free-to-play online fantasy football game”. Sorare features on the Premier League’s official website as a partner.

Wallet in Telegram app temporarily blocked for UK users due to restructuring

Wallet in Telegram will be temporarily restricted for users in the United Kingdom — due to a restructuring that saw Wallet in Telegram join the Open Platform— and will be available after the entity registers as a corporate asset provider, according to a Sept. 25 announcement from the wallet provider. The popular third-party said it decided to register as a crypto asset provider under the current Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) regulations and will disable the in-app wallet features for UK residents until Wallet, the firm behind the app, has obtained the proper regulatory licenses.
